I’m sitting in my local pub this evening working on my blog, my usual seat was empty for a couple of weeks as I was in hospital and then recovering.
What would I have done without top notch advocacy from someone who knows me well and has known me for a long time, knows me when I’m well and has seen me struggle before in critical hospital situations? Not everyone has this and it highlights again how precarious these situations can be for someone with complex learning disabilities. A lot of assumptions were made about my quality of life and what risks I was willing to take (and have taken!) with the love and support of my family and team. That is something which does not seem to change. My MBE for Services to People with Complex Needs in The East of England sits still shiny in it’s box and many of the issues that led to that remain relevant. Now hopefully back to my main passion… MUSIC… both of the winners of The Christian Raphael Prize at Cambridge Folk Festival are about to do a release and to go on tour. Please follow.
