Just as I launch myself into a publishing my first blog, I have looked back at what I wrote in June about Strawberry fair. That was all fun and sunshine and positivity.
This week has been slightly bleaker. I have been in hospital... diagnosis "septic shock". Basically quick action from my family and PAs and plenty of IV treatment meant only three days as an Inpatient. But was all a bit scary and worrying. Nurses and Healthcare assistants were very busy. I was squeezed into a full ward for older patients who called out for help day and night. No one asked about my learning disability, my communication needs or my understanding of treatment and my care needs whilst in hospital. My hospital passport was unread and my PAs not asked if they needed a break or a cup of tea. I will be thinking about how I can support improvement and safety campaigns in the next few months. Maybe I can start by looking at and sharing the NHS Improvement Learning Disability Standards?
